Free VPN with 500 MB monthly data for Windows, Mac, Android and iOS users

Most VPNs in this list do the same basic job, so the useful differences come from a few specific things.
Pricing model. Some have a real free tier. Proton VPN has a free plan, Windscribe gives you a monthly data allowance, Avira Phantom VPN includes 500 MB a month, and FreeVPNPlanet offers unlimited traffic with no sign-up. Among paid plans, listed starting prices go from $1.69/mo (PureVPN) to $5.61/mo (Mullvad's flat €5 rate).
Open source and self-hosting. If you want to see the code, Proton VPN, Mullvad VPN, Private Internet Access and Amnezia VPN are open source. Amnezia also lets you run it on your own server.
Platform coverage. Check that your devices are supported, Linux in particular. Proton VPN, Surfshark, ExpressVPN and PIA list Linux, but Turbo VPN and Hotspot Shield don't.
Extras and special use cases. Surfshark, VeePN and IPVanish bundle antivirus. VyprVPN and Amnezia focus on getting around censorship. TorGuard offers dedicated and residential IPs.
Several listed tools have free options: Proton VPN (free plan), Windscribe (monthly free data allowance), Avira Phantom VPN (500 MB per month), FreeVPNPlanet (unlimited traffic, no sign-up), plus Turbo VPN, Betternet, Hotspot Shield and Amnezia VPN, which have free tiers alongside paid plans.
Listed starting prices run from about $1.69/mo (PureVPN) and $1.99/mo (VeePN) up to $5.61/mo for Mullvad VPN's flat €5 monthly rate. Betternet Premium starts at $6/mo. Most others start between $2 and $4 a month. Some tools, such as ExpressVPN, Surfshark and CyberGhost, have no starting price in our listing.
Check whether the provider describes a no-logs policy, whether its apps run on all your devices (including Linux if you need it), and how many devices one plan covers. PIA allows unlimited devices, while VPN Proxy Master covers up to 15. If transparency matters to you, check whether the client is open source.
Amnezia VPN can run on a server you host yourself. TorGuard sells dedicated and residential IPs. Speedify isn't a typical VPN: it combines Wi-Fi, cellular, Starlink and Ethernet connections into one link.
