How to choose centralized exchanges tools
Most centralized exchanges let you buy, sell and hold crypto. They differ in four main ways.
Product range. Some stick to spot buying and staking, like Coinbase and CEX.IO. Others add derivatives: Binance, Kraken, OKX, Bitget and MEXC offer futures or perpetuals, and Deepcoin focuses on derivatives. Bitget and Kraken also list tokenized stocks or stock trading.
Region and fiat support. OKX describes itself as MiCA-licensed for EU users. CEX.IO and Crypto.com specifically mention GBP. Check that your country and currency are supported before you sign up.
API access. If you plan to run bots or connect your own tools, use an exchange with an API: Binance, Kraken, Gemini, OKX, Crypto.com, Bitfinex, Bitget, BitMart and Deepcoin all list one. Our list doesn't show an API for Coinbase, CEX.IO or MEXC.
Platforms and pricing. Binance and Bitget have desktop apps, and Crypto.com has a Chrome extension. Bitfinex advertises zero trading fees. Most other exchanges don't publish pricing in our list, so check their fee pages directly.
Frequently asked questions
Are there free centralized exchanges?
Bitfinex is listed as free and advertises zero trading fees. Coinbase is freemium, with a paid tier from $4.99/mo. For most of the others, we don't have pricing, so check each exchange's fee schedule.
How much do these exchanges cost?
The only published price in our list is Coinbase's paid tier, from $4.99/mo. Binance is marked as paid. Kraken, Gemini, OKX, Crypto.com and the rest don't have listed pricing. Exchanges usually charge trading fees, so compare those for the way you plan to trade.
What should I look for when choosing an exchange?
Check four things: whether the exchange is available in your region and supports your currency (for example, OKX for the EU, or CEX.IO and Crypto.com for GBP), whether you need derivatives or just spot trading, whether you need an API, and which apps it offers on the devices you use.
What are the alternatives to Binance or Coinbase?
Kraken, Gemini, OKX and Crypto.com all offer a broad mix of trading and staking, with an API. For derivatives and copy trading, there's Bitget, BitMart, Deepcoin and MEXC. Bitfinex covers margin, lending and derivatives.
