How to choose crypto tools
Most crypto exchanges let you buy and sell the major coins. The differences that matter show up in four places.
What you want to trade. Some platforms do much more than spot buying. Kraken offers margin, perps and stock trading. Bitget puts tokenized stocks, gold and forex in one account. Deepcoin focuses on derivatives such as perpetuals and CFDs. Gemini adds prediction markets and a credit card.
Pricing. Bitfinex is listed as free and advertises zero trading fees. Coinbase is freemium, with a paid tier from $4.99/mo. For most of the others we don't have pricing, so check their fee schedules directly.
Region and currency. OKX is MiCA-licensed for EU users. CEX.IO and Crypto.com list GBP support.
Platforms and API. If you plan to automate trading or build tools, Binance, Kraken, Gemini, OKX, Bitfinex and others offer an API. Binance also has desktop apps for macOS, Windows and Linux. Crypto.com has a Chrome extension.
We haven't tested these tools.
Frequently asked questions
Are there free crypto exchanges?
Bitfinex is listed as free and advertises zero trading fees. Coinbase has a free tier with paid plans on top. Most other listed exchanges don't publish pricing in our data, so check their fee pages.
How much do crypto exchanges cost?
Pricing details are limited in our listings. Coinbase's paid tier starts at $4.99/mo, Binance is listed as paid, and Bitfinex is free. For the rest, pricing isn't listed, and costs usually come from trading fees rather than a subscription.
What should I look for in a crypto exchange?
Look at the products you need (spot, futures, staking, copy trading), whether the exchange serves your region and currency, what apps it offers, and whether it has an API. For example, OKX is MiCA-licensed for the EU, CEX.IO supports GBP, and MEXC and BitMart offer copy trading.
What are alternatives to Binance?
Kraken, OKX, Bitget and Bitfinex all offer spot and derivatives trading with an API. Coinbase and Crypto.com are app-focused options for buying, storing and staking coins. MEXC and BitMart add copy trading and earn products.
