What is Coinbase?

Coinbase is a centralized cryptocurrency exchange where you can buy, sell, convert and hold digital assets from the web or its mobile apps. You open an account, add a payment method, and trade crypto. Your assets are held in a custodial account.

On top of the standard account, Coinbase sells a subscription called Coinbase One. According to Coinbase's own page, it comes in tiers. Members get zero-fee trading up to a monthly limit, boosted staking rewards, account protection coverage and up to $10 in gas fees on the Base network each month. Prices vary by region.

Coinbase suits people buying crypto for the first time and regular traders who want a regulated exchange. Frequent traders may want the subscription to cut trading fees.
