What is Signal?
Signal is a messaging app that encrypts every message and call end to end using the open source Signal Protocol. The organization says it cannot read your messages or listen to your calls, and encryption is always on, not an optional mode.
You can send text, voice messages, photos, videos, GIFs and files over your phone's data connection, which avoids SMS and MMS fees. It also offers voice and video calls with no long-distance charges, group chats, and encrypted stickers, including sticker packs you make yourself.
Signal is run by an independent 501(c)(3) nonprofit that is funded by grants and donations. The app has no ads, affiliate marketers or tracking. Apps are available for Android, iPhone and iPad, Windows, Mac and Linux. It suits anyone who wants private conversations with family, friends or coworkers.
