Tired of searching for a VPN that works correctly in your country? You’re in the right place, as Amnezia VPN is a fast, open-source VPN that runs on the proprietary AmneziaWG protocol and works perfectly even in the most heavily censored countries.
Pricing
AmneziaVPN offers both free and paid plans.
The free plan has no ads, no speed limits, and unlimited data. It is arguably the best free VPN service we have ever seen. However, it only works with specific websites designated by AmneziaVPN's developers.
If you need a high-quality VPN for all websites, consider the Premium plan, which costs $43 per year ($3.50/month) or $25 for six months ($4.16/month). These prices are reasonable, especially given that AmneziaVPN handles tasks that other VPN services cannot.

AmneziaWG protocol
The main feature of the project is AmneziaWG (Amnezia WireGuard). It is an enhanced version of WireGuard, adapted for use in countries that block VPNs based on traffic signatures.
In regular WireGuard, packets are easily detected by deep packet inspection (DPI), causing connections to drop in heavily restricted networks. AmneziaWG makes traffic "invisible" by disguising it as regular HTTPS connections, significantly increasing the chances of bypassing filters.
This is why Amnezia is often called a "VPN for censored countries" — it remains resistant to blocks where commercial services simply fail.
Security and Privacy
Amnezia is completely open source — the code is available on GitHub. This means anyone can check that there are no trackers, logs, or hidden backdoors.
Key principles:
- No user data collection.
- No centralized servers.
- All configuration stays on your own machine.
Honestly, this is one of the few VPN projects where you truly control everything.
Speed and Stability
Speed depends on your chosen server, not Amnezia itself. If your VPS is nearby with good bandwidth, speed will be almost the same as without a VPN.
AmneziaWG performs especially well in poor or restricted networks — ping is stable, and connections last longer than with standard WireGuard.
